Celebrate Beard at the Beach at Ocean Eddies from September 1-17 with a limited-time appetizer inspired by the flavors and history of Coastal Virginia. Just steps from the Cape Henry shoreline, where early English settlers first praised the region’s oysters as “delicate in taste,” Chef Baxter has created a Tidewater classic featuring six baked oysters topped with rich Mornay sauce and Edwards Virginia Country Ham, served with two warm homemade buttermilk biscuits.
Complete the experience with a traditional Old Fashioned crafted with Three Crosses Whiskey or Rye from Chef Baxter’s cousin’s distillery-a fitting tribute to James Beard’s appreciation for timeless American cocktails.
Available for a limited time only as part of the Beard at the Beach Culinary Series, with a portion of the proceeds benefiting the James Beard Foundation.
For one night, Yorkies Modern Deli transforms from a working deli into a living storybook of the local food system, five courses, five chapters, each one built around relationship: a farmer, a grower, a fisherman, an artisan, a student. Every chapter is plated and poured (wine-paired or cocktail) by a partnership between an established area chef and a CROP Foundation culinary student, narrated tableside so guests understand why the dish exists, not just what it is.
